Gutter Repair & Replacement
Both commercial and household roof gutters can suffer a lot of abuse — including clogs, leaks, dents and damage, temperature shrinkage and expansion, broken mountings, deterioration, and more.
Depending on the type and degree of damage, gutters may need extensive repairs to the point that replacing the eavestrough system entirely is a more cost-effective solution. Ask our experienced tradespeople to learn about your options, or learn a bit more below.
Clearing Gutter Clogs
If your gutters are regularly clogging or backing up, one of the easiest solutions is to invest in a gutter guard or gutter protection system. Gutter guards prevent larger forms of debris from entering your gutters, while allowing rainwater to continue to flow through.
Not all gutter guards are created equal, however. Many aren’t rated for protection against pine needles, which can result in having to continue to clean your gutters with the added frustration of a guard in the way. That’s why we recommend Alu-Rex’s DoublePro gutter system for buildings near coniferous trees, which has an anti-clogging warranty valid in pine tree zones.
It is worth noting that the DoublePro (and some other gutter guards) can only be installed on new gutter systems and not on old ones. In many cases, homeowners find it worth the upfront investment to get a new gutter system that includes high-quality, warrantied protection feature instead of opting for a cheaper option that may wind up clogging anyway. If you have any questions about which option would be best for you, let us know! We’re happy to answer them.
Fix Leaking Gutters
Gutters can leak for a variety of reasons, but a frequent cause is the deterioration of sealant between gutter sections. While sealant can be reapplied, it’s difficult to do well and it will eventually fail again.
A better, longer-term solution is to replace the leaking sections with either seamless continuous gutter segments, or more a more durable steel gutter system that uses rubber-sealed gutter connections.
Gutter Dents, Cracks & Sagging
Aluminum gutters are often thin and prone to dents, while plastic gutters can develop cracks, especially after being struck by a ladder or debris from a windstorm. Over time, both types can also start to see sagging from failing section joints or damaged hangers.
Unfortunately, many homeowners and building managers don’t realize that this damage can’t be repaired in any meaningful way. Once your gutters are damaged, they will almost always need to be replaced.
To prevent this kind of damage from happening in the first place, consider installing aluminum gutters with continuous gutter hangers that reinforce their entire length. If you want an even tougher eavestrough system, half-round steel gutters will shrug off forces that would crumple some aluminum gutters!
