FAQ
Let’s Talk Gutters
How many downspouts do I need?
The placement of downspouts is vital to making sure your gutter systems work well. They need to direct water away from the foundation of the house, and you also need to have enough downspouts to make sure that the gutters don’t get overloaded during heavy rains.
Our professional gutter installers will do the math and let you how many downspouts you need and where they should be placed.
What are continuous gutter hangers?
Continuous gutter hangers take the stability and strength of hundreds of spaced gutter hangers:
And replace it with a continuous piece of gutter support that doubles as a leaf guard:
See our information on continuous hangers for more details.
Why are continuous hanger systems better than spikes, screws, or hangers?
Gutter spikes, screws, and hangers provide a certain degree of strength, but only for a few inches to either side of them. The spaces between these fastenings are weak and tend to suffer damage over time.
With a continuous gutter hanger system, your eavestrough is equally solid across its entire length. There are no weak spots.
Do wet leaves stick to Alu-Rex gutter guards?
Only temporarily. Alu-Rex products boast a smooth, perforated surface. Just as they may temporarily stick to the hood of your car, leaves and debris that land on the surface of Alu-Rex products dry quickly in the sun. And unlike your car hood, the surface of your eavestrough is perforated so they dry faster!
A little wind is all it takes to sweep away dry leaves and debris:
- A 10 km/h wind effectively removes wet leaves and about 100 pine needles per linear foot.
- A 37 km/h wind can remove about an inch (2.5 cm) of pine needles per linear foot
How do Alu-Rex products stand up to snow?
Alu-Rex products significantly reduce the weight of snow on your eavestroughs. Since snow can’t get into the gutters, the weight they must carry is limited to that which accumulates on top of Alu-Rex products. Furthermore, the eavestroughs remain fully functional so water from melting snow and ice can drain away freely.
Without Alu-Rex products, the gutters already clogged with leaves and debris fill up with snow and ice, which keeps them from doing their job and draining water away in spring. Additionally, they have to support more weight.
Do Alu-Rex products require maintenance?
The DoublePro, Gutter Clean System and T-Rex are among the most efficient eavestrough protection systems on the market today.
In the vast majority of cases, a light breeze is enough to sweep away normal debris. In areas under the roof or under shallow overhangs on sloped roofs, debris may build up where the wind cannot reach it.
We recommend that you occasionally clean out these areas to keep your Alu-Rex products in good working condition.
Do Lindab gutters require special maintenance?
No. Half-round gutters are far more efficient than flat bottomed gutters, so less maintenance is required in comparison. An occasional wipe down or flush with a hose is usually all that is required.
Do you guarantee your work? What warranty do you offer?
Our work is warrantied for 3 years. If a corner, end cap or downpipe elbow leaks during that time, or if a gutter becomes detached, we’ll fix it free of charge.
What's the point of gutter guards if there are no trees near my home?
It may seem unnecessary to use a gutter leaf guard if there are no trees around your home. But continuous gutter hanger systems combine leaf protection with additional robustness, strength, and durability for your gutters.
With a continuous hanger, your eavestroughs will be stronger and more durable than any others. New trees may grow, and your eavestroughs will still be in perfect condition after 25, 30, and even 40 years! People who buy a DoublePro or T-Rex continuous system want what’s best for their gutters, just as they do for their doors, windows, and all other components of their home.
Isn't plastic mesh enough to protect my gutters?
It’s tempting to believe that a simple plastic mesh that sells for $4 per 20-foot (6.1 meters) roll can protect your gutters, but this just isn’t the case.
The openings in these products are much too large. Debris can get inside and leaves get stuck, which can clog eavestroughs and turn into fertile soil for plants to grow in. These products are also not rigid, so they bend under snow and ice.
In short, these products will still force you to periodically climb a ladder to clear out your gutters.
I have fir trees on my property and my gutters are constantly filling up with needles. Is there a gutter guard that can keep them out?
Yes, the Alu-Rex DoublePro continuous hanger is great as a new gutter installation or replacement gutter system on properties with pine trees. The offset holes make the perfect filter, allowing water to drain freely while blocking pine needles and leaves without ever getting clogged.
Do Lindab gutters attach to fascia?
The most commonly used Lindab support hangers attach directly to fascia board. If there is rot in any of the existing fascia boards, they should be replaced before installation.
Do Lindab gutters need gutter guards?
Lindab half-round gutters are already designed to flush most gutter debris more efficiently than standard flat-bottomed gutters. You can further increase your protection with a perforated screen system to keep larger debris from entering the gutter.
Are Lindab gutters naturally self-healing?
To a degree, yes. Lindab steel gutters are zinc-coated. This means that any scratch or cut is automatically sealed by zinc ions, which re-coat the uncovered steel.
